Kids can start Pedalheads youth swimming lessons as early as 4 months old in our Parent & Tot: Jellyfish level. These introductory classes are all about building comfort in the water alongside a parent or caregiver.
Every child learns at their own pace, and our programs are designed to support steady, confidence-building progress. With longer lesson times, small group sizes, and level-based progression, many Pedalhead kids advance more quickly than in traditional programs. But the focus is always on safety, comfort, and fun first.
At a minimum, your child will need a swimsuit and a towel. For certain levels, like Parent & Tot, parents should also be prepared to join their child in the pool. Check your Parent Handbook or class registration details for any specific instructions.
Yes. All Pedalheads swim instructors complete specialized training and must hold a Bronze Cross certification along with Standard First Aid and CPR-C before teaching. Many also receive additional training through the Lifesaving Society's Swim for Life Instructor Course, which prepares them to lead lessons from Parent & Tot through to advanced levels.
With in-water coaching and hands-on guidance, our team is trained to keep kids safe while helping them build real skills in the pool.
Kids are placed in clearly defined levels based on age and ability, from Parent & Tot classes through to Swimmer 9 and Bronze-level lifesaving courses. Some classes combine similar levels for flexibility, and all kids are assessed to ensure they're in the right fit.
Our programs are built for gentle encouragement, not pressure. With warm pools, friendly instructors, and play-based learning, even nervous swimmers can feel comfortable and supported. We meet kids where they're at—no rush, no stress, just steady, positive progress.
